Penn coach Gwen Harris was cheering Shaunee Morgan right to the finish line in the 400-meter run. But with about 10 meters to go, Harris came to her senses. Harris's frantic "Come on!"s and "All right!"s gave way to a calmer "Relax, relax, relax." Relax, Shaunee Morgan.

Some of the country's fastest runners will meet tomorrow at Franklin Field for the annual Penn Invitational. Nearly two dozen schools - including strong Ivy foes Cornell and Columbia - will compete. On the women's side, Penn's four All-American runners - Jesse Carlin, Claire Kim, Stacy Kim and Shaunee Morgan - are top seeds in the events in which they will compete.

Women's track NCAA Championships | Only 5 people are faster than Carlin

Led by senior runner Jesse Carlin, four Penn women entered the history books when they were named All-Americans at the NCAA Spring Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend. Carlin advanced to the 800m finals at the University of Arkansas track on Sunday, finishing with a season-best time of 2:06:48.

Track | Poor Heps showing spurs Penn

This weekend, Penn's track teams will embark on the ultimate alternate spring break, as they head north to compete in Boston. The women will compete in the ECAC Championships, while the men will race in the IC4A Championships. Penn Women's track coach Gwen Harris says there are two goals that every track team aspires to achieve at every big meet.

'Not very happy' with result at Heps

Fifth place was not what the Penn men's and women's track teams had in mind for this weekend's Heptagonal Indoor Championships at Cornell. Despite several impressive individual accomplishments, both teams fell short of the podium. The women finished in fifth with a total of 45 points, 69 behind first-place Princeton.

After a tough loss last week against Old Dominion, the Penn men's tennis team could've dwelled on the past. But instead the Quakers rebounded back in style on yesterday, finishing with big wins against Temple and Bucknell. The Quakers went undefeated in both singles and doubles against Temple, winning the match 7-0.

W. Track dominates triple jump

First place in the triple jump just wasn't enough at the Bucknell Invite on Saturday. Penn athletes swept the event, taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Junior Camille Richard won the event with a jump of 11.71 meters. Although the effort was not a personal best, Richard was pleased with the result.

Fencing Season Preview | Facing Berkowsky could land you at the dentist

Even when Ron Berkowsky screws up, he wins. The senior fencer still remembers - with a twinge of embarrassment - a miscue during a 2005 championship match. His hand (with a foil in it) collided with his opponent's head. The opponent stopped, took off his mask and started spitting blood.

Coaches are fond of saying that defense wins championships. Naturally, it wins some games along the way, too. Last night against American, Penn supported the old adage, providing a backbone of play that allowed the Quakers to add one more win to its season total.
