After putting up their second highest score of the season, but still finishing third out of four teams last week, the Quakers returned to the Palestra hoping to bounce back in a meet against William & Mary.
As Penn athletics begins to wrap up the winter season, there are still questions that will be answered in upcoming season finales. Here are some things to consider before the rise of spring.
This weekend at the Palestra, Penn gymnastics took on Cornell, Brown, and Ursinus in the team's home opener. The Quakers were hoping to top their performance from last weekend, when they scored 190.000 and finished second.
The Quakers' newcomers have been a major part of the team's success this season. Freshmen Ava Caravela, Sydney Kraez, and Natalie Yang have all proven themselves on the mat.
The Quakers, who scored 190.100 team points, faced off against Temple (194.150), Ursinus (174.175), and Ithaca (185.750) on Sunday in Philadelphia, placing second behind the host Owls.
The Bulldogs came out on top on Saturday, as they bested Penn, 193.775 to 192.350. But even though they weren’t able to oust Yale, the Quakers improved their point totals in three of the four events.
Penn gymnastics opened the season on Sunday in College Park, Md. to compete against the hosting Terrapins, West Chester, and Cortland State. The Quakers finished third in the meet with a score of 190.55.
At its core, the Palestra is a gathering place for members of the Penn community. No matter if the event is basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, or wrestling, the arena does its job of bringing people together.
Penn beat its best team score of the season with a mark of 193.925, and also had standout performances from gymnasts competing individually, including a first team All-American performance from junior Caroline Moore.
In this week's edition of Is Stat So?, Penn gymnastics's big day at Nationals, women's lacrosse's offensive explosion, and some shutdown pitching from baseball make the list.
So how did I manage to do it? What could I possibly have asked to get the heart and soul of Penn gymnastics to finally break? “Is there anything you aren’t good at?”
Penn gymnastics will be competing for the final time this weekend, as they head to Denton, Texas for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.
