With their seasons about to resume, here's all you need to know about Penn's winter sports teams' seasons so far.
04/10/17 5:56pm
There are 35 international student-athletes at Penn with 19 different countries represented, ranging from Hong Kong to Egypt to French Guiana. We wanted to highlight some of the athletes that best exemplify the character international students give to the university. These are their stories.

On Sunday, Penn fencing closed out its season at the 2017 NCAA Fencing Championships at the Indiana Farmers’ Coliseum. The Quakers came home with an eighth-place finish, scoring 107 points in the co-ed team championship tournament.

On Thursday, March 23rd, senior sabre Dana Kong will begin her last fencing tournament as a Quaker. And, as she approaches her last time on the strip, she will get to make her debut on the collegiate fencing’s biggest stage. Kong is one of 11 fencers who will represent the Red and Blue at the 2017 NCAA Fencing Championships in Indianapolis.

The Temple Invitational was held on Sunday and Penn men’s and women’s fencing both finished the competition with a winning record. The Temple Invitational is a key point in the fencing season as it is the last match play before NCAA regionals. Gaining momentum going into the final stretch of the season is crucial, and both the women’s and men’s teams left the invitation with some impressive wins.

Interestingly, not only did the same three teams share the title again, but for the second straight year, they also had the same results against one another at the Ivy League Fencing Round Robins. It’s become a game of rock-paper-scissors between them.
02/08/17 7:32pm
"Alright, we’ve had our fun over the last couple of days, but may the real Ivy League championship contenders step forward..." Entering from stage right is coach Andy Ma and Penn fencing, poised this weekend to take another shot at collecting the coveted Ivy League Fencing Championship titles.
02/05/17 9:24pm
With the Ivy League Championships coming up, it could have been very easy for Penn fencing to look ahead and not focus on the match at hand. But the men’s and the women’s teams would do no such thing, dominating the competition at the Northwestern Duals this weekend.
02/01/17 8:20pm
With the all-important Ivy League Championship just a week away, Penn fencing travels to Notre Dame this weekend to compete in the Northwestern Duals. The two-day event will feature tough opponents on both the men's and women's sides, as several ranked teams will be among the list of entrants.
01/24/17 8:42pm
Raynis and Yoo met when they were twelve and eleven years old, respectively, and from that point on did basically all of their fencing together. Though their high school team was not highly competitive, they also competed for the same club team throughout high school, strengthening their friendship even more.
01/22/17 8:08pm
Both teams produced mirror 6-0 records on the day, with both teams posting wins against Duke, Haverford, NYU, and NJIT, and Sacred Heart. The men’s sixth win came against Drew, while the women closed their day with an impressive performance to defeat Temple.
01/18/17 10:46pm
It’s the first time this season that a team other than Penn fencing will face off at the Quakers’ home stage, and if things go Penn’s way, those teams won’t be eager to come back. The Red and Blue host five teams in the Philadelphia Invitational this weekend. Penn will face off against Cornell, Northwestern, Sacred Heart, Temple and Duke in the Coach Dave Micahnik Center.
01/16/17 11:15pm
Two down, check. On Sunday, Penn fencing recorded another strong showing in the second event of its January non-conference campaign.
01/10/17 7:48pm
New year, same great Penn fencing. This past weekend, the Quakers' fencing teams recorded strong efforts at the North American Cup (NAC) in Columbus, Ohio to bring in the new year.
12/13/16 12:57am
With only preseason tournaments under their belt thus far, Penn’s men and women fencing teams will look to use winter break as one of the final tune-ups before the rigors of the conference season begin.
12/07/16 12:07am
In Penn’s history, 24 fencers have represented the Red and Blue at the Olympic Games. If sophomore Justin Yoo has anything to say about it, he will be the 25th come Tokyo.
11/27/16 10:57pm
When Nicole Vaiani first started learning how to fence, she would beat her older brother all the time.
11/20/16 10:18pm
If the NCAA fencing world wasn’t already on high alert for the Quakers, it has now been put on notice after an impressive performance at the Garret Penn State Open.
11/17/16 12:47am
BEWARE: Objects on Penn fencing’s preseason schedule are more hectic than they appear. “Coming in to college we’re not used to this being a seasonal sport,” senior Alejandra Trumble said.
11/14/16 11:51pm
Both Green and sophomore sabre Julian Merchant traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin this past weekend to participate in the November North American Cup where they finished 21st and 32nd respectively out of 210 fencers.
