A week ago, students sat down to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with their loved ones. But many of the people responsible for producing that meal have not been able to enjoy the company of their families for many years.
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers - which seeks to improve conditions for a Florida farming community - last Friday gave a presentation in Irvine Auditorium that illustrated the plight of these laborers.

Dec. 2 - Melissa Green, 19 and unaffiliated with the University, was arrested on the 3900 block of Market Street at 10 p.m. for allegedly assaulting a woman, 51 and also unaffiliated with the University, during a dispute.
Nov. 30 - Phong Le, 26 and unaffiliated with the University, of the 1600 block of 15th Street, was arrested on the 100 block of 40th Street at 1:30 a.

The Wharton School and the School of Arts and Sciences have created a program in which students can receive both an MBA and a Master's of Environmental Studies, the University announced last week.
The program allows students to complete both degrees in two and a half years, spending three semesters in residence at Wharton.

For Penn Dining, going green involves more than just removing trays.
The next green initiative: local food marketing interns.
This semester, Penn Dining is seeking students to continue the work of previous interns, with sustainability in mind.
The job involves a variety of tasks, ranging from promoting special events to updating the Penn Dining Web site.

Gotham Book Mart was a literary landmark in New York City until it closed in 2007 - but now, its collection of about 200,000 books and manuscripts will be available to the public once again.
The University announced last month that an anonymous donor bought the Gotham Book Mart's collection, which is worth several million dollars, and donated it to Penn Libraries.

Philadelphia police say that the incident is similar to two others that occurred in Center City in October and believe the same person is responsible for all three attacks.

Communications professor and associate provost for faculty affairs Vincent Price will become the interim provost in March as Penn searches for a replacement for current Provost Ron Daniels, who will serve as president of Johns Hopkins University.

The body of Kambili Moukwa, 22-year old College senior, was found outside a nightclub near the Festival Pier by Penn's Landing this afternoon, according to Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush.
The manner and cause of his death are not yet determined, and an investigation is being conducted by the Philadelphia medical examiner's office, University spokeswoman Lori Doyle said.

A fire forced some students to evacuate the Quadrangle Friday evening.
Division of Public Safety spokeswoman Stef Cella and Facilities workers on the scene said a lamp ignited a bed sheet in a dorm room on the first floor of Leidy, which is located on the south side of the Upper Quad, at about 7 p.m.

Penn's latest effort to reach out to high-achieving students in need of economic assistance is already showing signs of success.
This year, 26 students will receive full, four-year scholarships to Penn because of the University's new partnership with QuestBridge - a program that links low-income students with grants at top colleges.
