It’s 7 p.m. on the first day of the 128th Penn Relays Carnival. The air is chilly, spectators are shivering, and after a morning packed with high school events, the college distance runners are finally stepping onto the track. While distance races might not be quite as stimulating for the spectators as the sprints, the upcoming race is sure to stop everyone in their tracks.

This past weekend Penn’s track and field teams split up to compete in two meets: the Pepsi Florida Relays and the Raleigh Relays, comprising the ultimate track weekend. The sprinters and jumpers traveled to Gainesville, Fla, while the distance runners and throwers headed to Raleigh, N.C.

Saturday morning revealed a cloudy and gray day filled with torrential downpours. Nevertheless, the Penn men’s and women’s track and field teams suited up to race their rivals in the annual Penn Challenge at Franklin Field. Despite the less-than-ideal weather, the Quakers exploded onto the track for their first meet of the outdoor season.

On March 15, 2024, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the winners of its 2024 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Regional coaching awards, which are separated by region. Penn coaches dominated the Mid-Atlantic region, winning three of the four awards that they were eligible for.

There’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance, a balance that athletes must maintain consistently when talking to the media. While some may struggle with that line, junior sprinter Jocelyn Niemiec tows it gracefully. She puts forth just the right amount of self-assurance while still acknowledging the help she has received along her track career.

This past weekend, Penn men's and women's track and field traveled to Cambridge, Mass. to compete in the 2024 Heptagonal Championships, known as the “Heps.” Founded in 1934, the Heps are a yearly tradition where all Ivy League schools' track and field teams compete for the coveted first place prize.

The usual competitive spirit at the Palestra was magnified tonight as Penn women’s basketball faced off against Brown for the first time this season. With the Quakers fresh off of two losses and the Bears hoping to secure their third consecutive win, each team battled their hardest for the victory for different reasons. Ultimately Penn came out on top, crushing Brown with a final score of 77-56.

At the end of the 2023 football season, the Quakers have seen five seniors enter the transfer portal according to On3 Recruiting — linebacker Jonathan Melvin, defensive backs Kendren Smith and Shiloh Means, defensive lineman Joey Slackman, and offensive lineman Jack Purcell — to take advantage of their final year of collegiate eligibility. Before they leave Penn, here’s a look back at their last season as Quakers.

Entering Thanksgiving break with a 2-1 record, Penn women’s basketball traveled to California in hopes of extending its winning record in games against Chapman University, San Diego State, and University of California, San Diego. Ultimately, the team returned to Philadelphia with a bundle of air miles traveled and a record of 4-2.
