Friends and family mourn the sudden death of College freshman William Steinberg

College freshman William Steinberg, 18, was among 10 American tourists who died in a fatal plane crash on Dec. 31. Steinberg, who was traveling in Costa Rica with his family, died when his plane, which was traveling from the resort town of Punta Islita on the Pacific coast, crashed into a mountainous region.

As the semester winds down and I inch closer to the end of both my sophomore fall and my first semester at Penn, I can’t help but think about how little time I have left here. Two and a half years. That’s it. What have I made of my time here? What will I do to make sure that my years here are as memorable as possible? Will I bear any sort of real impact on this school, or will I be just one of hundreds of thousands of Penn alumni?

Mehmet Oz, the Turkish-American cardiothoracic surgeon known for his television appearances on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and his own talk show, "The Dr. Oz Show," paid Penn students a visit on Nov. 13. The 1986 Wharton graduate, who has been criticized by other doctors for having a passion for financial returns over the scientific practice of medicine, said he was glad he came to a campus that valued both.



Penn Debate Society and Philomathean Society debate the effectiveness of progressive stacking

Less than three weeks after teaching assistant Stephanie McKellop sparked national controversy for tweeting about using progressive stacking in the classroom, Penn Debate Society went head-to-head against the Penn Philomathean Society to debate whether the teaching method does more harm than good.







At the 'Campus Conversation,' administrators shared personal stories, but no policy solutions

Hundreds of students, faculty and staff strolled into the Zellerbach Theatre at 5 p.m. on Oct. 30 for a University-wide "Campus Conversation," organized by Penn's top administrators. The event was announced two weeks ago as a discussion on what the school can do to foster resilience in the face of student deaths, natural disasters and political instability.
