My first assignment as an intern at the District Attorney’s Office was to attend a Pennsylvania Supreme Court hearing at City Hall. District Attorney Larry Krasner filed a "King’s Bench" petition seeking to have the death penalty ruled unconstitutional in Pennsylvania. That day, as I made my way down the humid hallways of the centuries-old courthouse, the idea of capital punishment becoming abolished became a real possibility to me.

Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic forced spring sports competitions to come to a halt. One such tournament was the annual Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, always hosted by Penn at Franklin Field. This year, the Penn Relays sponsored the Philadelphia Metropolitan Collegiate Invitational (“Philly Mets”), a scaled-down version of the typical week-long extravaganza.

In light of the past four years of a Trump administration, increasing progressive influence, and the rise of cancel culture, it’s not a far reach to say that “conservative” has become a dirty word for many liberals. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) so much as called for a blacklist of public figures who had supported former President Trump in a tweet that felt reminiscent to McCarthyism-era political shunning. These calls for a “Trump Accountability Project” or something of the sort aren’t limited to the former President’s political opposition, but have instead become regular occurrences within families, in businesses, and at schools.
