Summer Press Academy

About the Summer Press Academy

The Summer Press Academy is a three-day program designed for high school students interested in journalism and media. Hosted by The Daily Pennsylvanian, the award-winning student newspaper of the University of Pennsylvania with a 140 year history of producing internationally-acclaimed journalists, participants will learn essential reporting skills through hands-on workshops and guest lectures from well-known journalists.

Throughout the week, students will explore various aspects of journalism and learn what exactly goes into making a great news story. Students will also have the opportunity to collaborate with peers, receive personalized feedback from editors, and learn what a career in journalism might look like for them. At the end of the camp, students will also be given the opportunity to publish a piece through The Daily Pennsylvanian.

The Summer Press Academy will run in August as a fully virtual experience. The cost of the program is $295, which helps support The Daily Pennsylvanian’s mission of informing and driving conversation while providing enduring student experiences in journalism and leadership. No prior journalism experience is required—just a passion for storytelling and a willingness to learn!
