After securing Penn's seventh Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal title in program history, Penn women’s track and field coach Steve Dolan was named Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
Dolan is in his 12th season as the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country at Penn and is regarded as one of the best coaches in the country. Dolan further solidified his status with a dramatic title-winning weekend in which the Quakers scored 140 points. Dolan also produced four Ivy League title performances at the Heps, with senior hurdler Aliya Garozzo finishing first in the 60m hurdles, sophomore sprinter Moforehan Abinusawa winning both the 60m and 200m, and senior Isabella Whittaker taking home the trophy in the 400m.
This is the ninth time that Dolan has been crowned Ivy League Coach of the Year, and with other awards, such as Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year in 2018, following the indoor and outdoor seasons, his trophy room is certainly getting crowded.
Prior to coaching at Penn, Dolan served eight years as the head men's cross country coach and assistant men's track coach for Princeton, where he earned NCAA Regional Coach of the Year on four occasions. Going back even further, Dolan was NCAA Division III Regional Coach of the Year 12 times as the head of the track & cross country programs at The College of New Jersey.
Outside of his current role within Penn track and field, Dolan is also in charge of overseeing Penn Relays as the Frank Dolson Director, a position he picked up in October 2021.
A native of Bloomington, Minn., Dolan graduated from the University of St. Thomas, where he was the 1992 NCAA Division III national champion in the decathlon and was runner-up in 1991. He also set program records for the school in the decathlon, pentathlon, and javelin. This earned him a spot in the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.
With the NCAA Division I indoor track and field championships set to begin on March 7 in Boston, Dolan and the rest of the Red and Blue squad are looking to continue their string of dominance by adding another trophy to the cabinet.
