Good morning, Penn.

Welcome back to Quaker Nation, Penn’s premier sports newsletter.

In this week’s edition, we’re spotlighting the men’s basketball coaches and Penn women’s lacrosse’s heartbreaking quadruple overtime loss.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the latest stories from The Daily Pennsylvanian Sports:

Welcome home: Fran McCaffery was officially introduced to the Penn community as head men's basketball coach in a press conference last week, with attendees including Penn President Larry Jameson and Athletic Director Alanna Wren.

Reinforcements are in: Last week, McCaffery’s Penn men’s basketball assistant coaching staff was officially announced. The group includes Tristan Spurlock, Ben Luber, and Ronald Moore.

Quadruple overtime: In a loss reminiscent to last year’s, Penn women’s lacrosse once again endured a heartbreaking loss to Yale in a four-overtime defeat.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Tina Njike keeps it real about her healing journey and love for activities off the court

“Where are you from?” is often an easy question to answer. Not for Penn women's basketball sophomore center Tina Njike. Trying to explain her background with roots in Canada, Utah, and Belgium is far from easy, and so has been explaining her basketball journey. Tearing both ACLs and lateral menisci in high school and her first year at Penn, she has patiently fought back to earn her spot on the court.

SPORTS COLUMN
Slinka-Petka | Our athletes are showing up. Why aren’t we?

Sports columnist Piper Slinka-Petka discusses how Penn Athletics should build a story for their players. By drawing a parallel to the Philadelphia Eagles’ picture-perfect Super Bowl victory, she argues that athletes should have a narrative to draw the audience’s attention. With coach Fran McCaffrey’s hiring and TJ Power’s transfer to Penn, there is no better time than now for these stories to take shape.
