Monday, March 3

Good morning, Penn.

Welcome back to Quaker Nation, Penn's premier sports newsletter.

Welcome to March! Arguably, it's the second-biggest time for sports after the Super Bowl. While Ivy Madness and March Madness are on the horizon, there are also other sports shining this month to look out for.

In this week's edition, we're spotlighting the Penn men's and women's basketball teams as well as the men's swimming and diving team.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the latest stories from The Daily Pennsylvanian Sports:

Fastest Time in NCAA: Senior breaststroke/individual medley specialist Matt Fallon notched the fastest time in the NCAA en route to his third Ivy League title in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Ivy League Championships.

Forty-two and 1,000 Points: Penn men's basketball took home a 92-87 victory at Columbia fueled by Sam Brown's historic 42 points and Nick Spinoso notching his 1,000th point.

Tough Break: Less than 24 hours after a dominant victory over Dartmouth, Penn women's basketball fell 62-44 to Harvard, putting its Ivy Madness chances in jeopardy.

Scoring her 149th career goal during a rout of Temple, Brandt becomes the Penn program record holder for career goals.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Sam Brown's 42 points fuel Penn men's basketball's 92-87 victory over Columbia

In a disappointing season, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. In a classic Big Apple clash, sophomore guard Sam Brown's 42 points tied the most points by an individual Quaker since 1989 — and brought some hope to a struggling program.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Dominant Harvard defense puts Penn women's basketball's hopes for Ivy Madness in jeopardy

Penn women's basketball must wait one more week to see if it'll make Ivy playoffs. With one game left in the regular season — Penn's Senior Night against Princeton at the Palestra — the Red and Blue must keep their one-game in-conference lead over Brown to secure a spot.
