A brush fire broke out near Penn Medicine Station yesterday, and an Annenberg School for Communication study revealed how mainstream media underemphasizes coverage of chronic illnesses.

But first, the University struck multiple proposals demanding protections against discrimination and harassment during negotiations with Penn’s graduate student union.

Penn strikes anti-discrimination protections from graduate student union contract proposal

Penn struck out multiple provisions against discrimination and harassment from Graduate Employees Together — University of Pennsylvania’s contract proposal during negotiations in what one union organizer called an “attack on DEI.”

GET-UP, which represents 3,700 student workers, first voted to unionize in May 2024 before beginning negotiations with Penn administration. The bargaining committee first signed its proposal on demands against harassment and discrimination titled “Prohibition Against Discrimination, Unlawful Harassment, and Abusive Conduct” — which defined the union’s vision for professional discourse — in October 2024.

The 13 provisions from the bargaining committee included requests for pregnancy-related accommodations, protection from harassment by Penn Police, and access to gender-neutral bathrooms.
