The awards, which were announced on March 2, recognized the DP’s work in the Division I category, which includes Pennsylvania colleges and universities with an enrollment of at least 10,000 students. The DP won six first place awards, four second place awards, and an honorable mention. Additionally, the DP received the Division I "Sweepstakes Award" — which recognizes Division I's most awarded media organization. This was the DP's second year entering these awards.
The awards recognized the DP’s coverage on the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, investigative sports stories, design illustrations, and editorial columns, along with a feature story from 34th Street Magazine.

On May 10, officers from the Philadelphia and Penn Police departments arrested dozens of protesters at the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at around 6 a.m. The Daily Pennsylvanian staffers closely followed the events throughout the day, from the initial arrests to the subsequent rally condemning the arrests.
