Penn’s Fine Arts and Design board hosted a Super Bowl screen printing and giveaway event at the Charles Addams Fine Arts Hall last Friday.

At the event, which started at noon and drew over 300 Penn students and staff in a line that stretched from the second floor of Addams Hall to its entrance, Fine Arts and Design students worked on designs themed around the Eagles, incorporating trends from this season to create unique prints. University Life and College Houses & Academic Services sponsored the event, with additional support coming from Class Board 2025 as a part of Feb Club — a series of social events for seniors.

Kate Lawrence, Associate Director of the Fine Arts and Design program, served as the main organizer of the event.

“Me and one of my seniors in Design, Hajoon Park, [made] a handshake deal that when the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl, we would put on this event,” Lawrence said. “Last Monday, I got up and sent him an email and said, ‘It's time.’”

College senior Michelle Wen was one of the volunteers helping design shirts. She told the Daily Pennsylvanian that the event was the largest screen printing event of the year and that many Fine Arts and Design students helped to organize it.

Wen added that the team met on Jan. 31 — following the NFC Championship Game — to begin designs. Her station, which featured a collage that pieced together an assortment of designs, drew one of the longest lines.

Lawrence highlighted the effort and creativity students put into making the designs.

“There was a lot of Saquon Barkley represented, and the Cherelle Parker ‘E-L-G-S-E-S’ is on one of the designs,” Lawrence said. "Even on T-shirts that don’t say ‘Super Bowl,’ it’s very about this exact moment.”

She added that her goal for the designs was to create a relaxing and exciting space for students.

“We love to encourage people to be together, make stuff, and bring the whole campus to one place," she said.

Throughout the event, Lawrence, Wen, and other volunteers talked to students in line about their plans for the Super Bowl and their support for the Eagles

Engineering senior Cristina Perez came to the event because she didn’t have any Eagles merchandise to wear for the game.

“I was never really a fan of football,” Perez said. “I grew up in Boston, so I watched the Eagles beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl, but I never really liked the Patriots that much. I think they're kind of pretentious. So now that I live in Philly, I'm a much bigger fan of the Eagles than I ever was of the Patriots.”

Engineering first year Jeremy Chung recounted growing a similar appreciation for the Eagles during his time at Penn.

“I'm from DC, so I'm definitely a fan of the Commanders, but I really don't like the Chiefs,” Chung said. “I guess I’m an Eagles fan this time. Even though there’s a rivalry, I still respect them.”
