Broad Street erupted in celebration after the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
After the Philadelphia Eagles' victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, The Daily Pennsylvanian photographers traveled from Penn’s campus to Broad Street to document the celebration.
Quarterback and most valuable player of the Eagles Jalen Hurts led the team in a 40-22 win, throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns as well as rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown. During the halftime show, rappers Kendrick Lamar and Mustard, singer SZA, actor Samuel L. Jackson, and athlete Serena Williams performed.
On Penn’s campus, students gathered at watch parties hosted in different college houses.
Off campus, streets were filled with fans from all over the Philadelphia area. “Philly Elmo” and his drum line attracted hordes of fans who danced along.
Throughout the night, fireworks and miniature rockets flew up from the crowd. Sparklers were handed out to everyone who wanted one — even those on the shoulders of others.
As the night went on, die-hard Eagles fans climbed onto light poles, bus stop signs, and even garbage trucks.
The energy pulsed throughout Broad Street with continuous shouts of the Eagles' chants, and the trademark “Go Birds!” lingered from Juniper Street to Spruce Street.
Fans donned Eagles merchandise, from jackets to flags to hats and even ski masks.
After a devastating loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023 at Super Bowl LVII, the Eagles and their fans rejoiced together as they celebrated their comeback win for the City of Brotherly Love.
