Welcome back to Quaker Nation! 

This week’s edition has big news, athlete reactions, and big games across the board. Without further ado, let's jump into the latest stories from DP Sports:

Sliding down the rankings: Penn men's and women's basketball collectively went 1-3 this past weekend, marking a continuation of both team's bad starts to their respective seasons.

Penn and professional teams: Practice makes perfect, and where better for the pros to practice than the Palestra! Read here to see which professional NFL and NBA teams have used the Quakers' facilities.

Perfect record: Penn men's tennis has started the season 5-0, crediting its "blue-collar mentality" for early season dominance.

'Maybe the transfer portal would be best for me': Penn athletes react to NCAA settlement decision

 
In statements to The Daily Pennsylvanian, 10 former and current Penn athletes expressed their disappointment with the Ivy League's decision to opt out of "pay for play." Former Olympians, transfers, and current stars all expressed worry for Penn's treatment of its athletes and its competitive future.

Back-to-back bounceback: Penn women's basketball snaps losing streak with victory over Yale


On Saturday, Penn women's basketball found its footing against Yale after a loss to Brown the night before. Four Quakers put up double-digit scoring performances, with junior guard Simone Sawyer putting up a season-high 17 points. 
 
 


SQUASH

Sophomore Salman Khalil wins College Squash Association Individual Championships


Khalil took home the Pool Trophy after beating teammate Omar Hafez in a straight set victory (11-4, 13-11, 11-2) after a 10-point comeback in the first set. Seeded first and finishing first in the tournament, Khalil has greatly built upon his Ivy League Rookie of the Year campaign last season.
 

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Yale's trio dominates Penn men's basketball en route to 90-61 loss


After a loss to Brown, Penn men's basketball suffered another defeat against Yale at the Palestra on Saturday. With Yale's top three bucket getters singlehandedly outscoring the Quakers, the team will have a tough time climbing its way back up to Ivy League contention.

Meet four walk-ons — athletes who work the hardest with the most to gain and nothing to lose — in Penn's football and rowing programs. Starting from the bottom, each athlete talks about their individual climbs to the top of Quaker athletics.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (6-13, 2-4 Ivy) suffered back-to-back losses to Yale and Brown.  [READ MORE]

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (11-9, 2-5 Ivy) broke its 3-game losing streak with a win against Yale[READ MORE]

NO. 3 MEN'S FENCING (18-4) is resting up in preparation for Ivy League Championships next weekend.

NO. 7 WOMEN'S FENCING (17-7) is also resting up in preparation for Ivy League championships next weekend.

GYMNASTICS put up a winning score of 194.750 at Cornell, and also set a season-high score on bars.

NO. 1 MEN'S SQUASH (15-0) dominated against both Harvard and Dartmouth, winning 8-1 and 9-0, respectively. 

NO. 7 WOMEN'S SQUASH (11-2) won decisively against Dartmouth, rebounding after a 3-6 loss to Harvard.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING (4-6, 1-6 Ivy) is preparing to go to the Blue Hen Invite next weekend.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING (8-4, 3-4 Ivy) finished the regular season 8-4 overall, with freestyle specialist Kayla Fu setting a new program record.  

MEN'S TENNIS (5-0) claimed victories over both Yale and St. Joseph's last Sunday to boost its record to 5-0.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (3-2) beat Delaware, making its record at home 3-0.

TRACK & FIELD went to Penn State National, where senior Jocelyn Niemiec won the 500-meter with the second-fastest time in program history.

WRESTLING is dominating in the Ivy League early, shutting out Harvard and defeating Brown at the Palestra this past Sunday.
 
STAT OF THE WEEK: Penn women’s basketball’s senior guard Lizzy Groetsch got five steals, a career-high, in her first start of the year in the team's win against Yale.
