Happy Super Bowl weekend! As we prepare to watch the Philadelphia Eagles face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, take some time to read today’s top stories.

The former first lady of Ukraine spoke at Perry World House yesterday afternoon, and The Daily Pennsylvanian spoke with Penn faculty members to understand how Penn student course evaluations affect their classes and departments.

But first, Penn’s School of Dental Medicine and Stuart Weitzman School of Design scrubbed websites related to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives — marking Penn’s most significant steps to date that suggest a backpedaling of some DEI programs.

Penn scrubs DEI initiatives following Trump's executive order 

Penn’s School of Dental Medicine and Stuart Weitzman School of Design appear to have recently shut down central offices and initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Dental School’s diversity email address returned an automated “address not found” message on Thursday, and the websites for the school’s Office of Faculty Diversity & Mentorship and Student Diversity & Inclusion are no longer active. Meanwhile, a web page for the Weitzman School’s Inclusion and Belonging initiative began directing to an “Access Denied” message around 5 p.m. yesterday.

"We are reviewing these websites and programs to ensure they are consistent with our nondiscrimination policies and federal law," a University spokesperson wrote in a statement to The Daily Pennsylvanian.

Penn Athletics removes DEI webpage following Department of Education investigation 

Penn Athletics has removed its DEI webpage following the announcement of an Department of Education investigation into Penn pertaining to Title IX violations. The alleged violations stem from 2022 College graduate and transgender woman Lia Thomas's time competing for Penn's women's swim team.

Penn Athletics’ website previously stated that the “[Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics] is dedicated to fair and inclusive practices for all student-athletes, coaches, and staff including those who identify as transgender.” The page was still live as of early Thursday morning.

A University spokesperson declined to comment on the decision, and a request for comment was left with Penn Athletics.
