Former Penn swimmers have filed a lawsuit against Penn, the Ivy League, and the NCAA for allegedly violating Title IX by allowing transgender swimmer Lia Thomas to compete in the Ivy League Championships, and The Daily Pennsylvanian interviewed STEM departments on campus to discuss the reasons behind changes in their undergraduate curriculums.

But first, the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania was shut down in August 2024, and former clinic employees say it was clear to them that criticisms of Penn’s response to allegations of antisemitism played a role in the closure.

Penns Cohen Military Family Clinic shut down

The Cohen Clinic has served thousands of veterans and their families since its founding in 2016. But following a tumultuous year for Penn, the clinic was shut down in August 2024.

The clinic was the result of a partnership between Penn Medicine and Cohen Veterans Network, a philanthropic organization created by 1978 Wharton graduate and hedge-fund billionaire Steven Cohen. Former employees and patients of the clinic told the DP that the closure left veterans in Pennsylvania and New Jersey without a crucial source of care.

“We’re scrambling,” said Darcel Rideout, a former veteran patient of the Cohen Clinic who later served on its advisory board. “[The closure] not only impacts the veterans in the community, but it impacts the family members, the caretakers, and everyone else who wants to support veterans.”

  Before Johnny Wilson was a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, he was the best friend of Penn football senior wide receiver Julien “Juice” Stokes.

In 2012, the DP reported that Penn men’s fencing team remained undefeated after beating then-No. 1 ranked Penn State. This year, the Penn women’s fencing team secured 11 wins across two meets, as the road to a second Ivy League championship is looking more and more promising.
