Welcome back to yet another beautiful Monday morning where the first thing you open on your phone is (hopefully) DP Daybreak! I hope that the Sunday scaries didn't hit you too hard.

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania dismissed a lawsuit filed against the University by a group of Penn faculty, and former Penn President Amy Gutmann was awarded the Yale Legend in Leadership Award.

But first, the Trump administration’s restrictions on NIH funding and communication caused confusion towards the state of medical research and operations, including at Penn.

Trump administration orders freeze on NIH funding, communication, and activity

The Trump administration recently restricted NIH funding, external communication, and activity, causing confusion about the state of medical research and operations, including at Penn.

Health and research systems like Penn Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia were among those affected by Trump’s funding cuts — which were among the dozens of executive orders signed by the 1968 Wharton graduate in the first two weeks of his second term. The pauses went into effect on Jan. 22 and were slated to lift on Feb. 1.

In 2023, the DP reported that Amy Gutmann returned to Penn from Germany for the naming ceremony of Gutmann College House. This past week, Gutmann was given the Yale Legend in Leadership Award.
