Happy Wednesday! I hope you're staying warm and, more importantly, grounded in this windy weather.

The Penn Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics has announced 14 funding recipients, and The Daily Pennsylvanian highlighted five classes offered this spring that highlight Black style, music, and history.

But first, Penn researchers are developing new ways to treat a variety of diseases with mRNA technology.

Penn researchers develop mRNA technology to treat diseases 

Penn researchers are developing new uses for mRNA technology to help treat a variety of diseases, including cancer and celiac disease. 

Research on mRNA — which involves introducing molecules to human cells to instruct them on how to fight illness and treat medical conditions — is a popular technique that has been used to treat various cancers, HIV, COVID-19, and influenza, among other illnesses. 

“Our vision for how we would use mRNA therapeutics to treat these diseases is to develop antigen-specific, tolerizing therapies,” research assistant professor of Medicine Jilian Melamed told the DP.

 From Black style to Black music, here are five classes being offered this spring at Penn that highlight Black history. 

 Recent reports evaluated the health and environmental impacts of the Jan. 31 jet crash in Northeast Philadelphia. 

 The Penn Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics has awarded small grants to 14 fellows for early-stage research projects.

  The Arthur Ross Gallery has opened “After Modernism,” a new exhibition featuring pieces from the Neumann Family Collection, as well as faculty and student works.

In 2020, the DP reported that 1968 Wharton graduate and President Donald Trump would pardon 1979 Wharton MBA graduate and former Wall Street executive Michael Milken. Last month, Trump pardoned 2010 College graduate Patrick Stedman for his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
