Happy Tuesday, and go Birds! As the Philadelphia Eagles soar to the Super Bowl in a couple weeks, let me take you through today’s news.

Penn community members left messages of support for the Eagles at the Penn Bookstore yesterday, and the Wharton Undergraduate Healthcare Club hosted its annual undergraduate healthcare conference titled “Healthcare Beyond Borders” on Saturday at the Inn at Penn.

But first, Penn has remained silent on President Donald Trump’s new immigration policies, despite former Penn President Amy Gutmann announcing in 2017 that Penn would serve as a “sanctuary” for undocumented students.

Penn remains silent on Trump’s new immigration policies as campus groups prepare response

This week, student organizations braced for changes under 1968 Wharton graduate and President Donald Trump's new policies on immigration, specifically the reversal of a policy that previously declared "sensitive locations," such as schools, churches, hospitals, colleges, funerals, and rallies, off-limits for Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids. 

While Penn has remained silent on the new policies, groups around campus are preparing for what they might look like campus. Penn for Immigrant Rights, for instance, has hosted two "Know Your Rights" workshops, alongside groups like the United Minorities Council and the Greenfield Intercultural Center.

Although former Penn President Amy Gutmann announced in 2017 that Penn would serve as a "sanctuary" for undocumented students, PIR and other organizations now fear retaliation from ICE.
