Penn remains silent on Trump’s new immigration policies as campus groups prepare response
This week, student organizations braced for changes under 1968 Wharton graduate and President Donald Trump's new policies on immigration, specifically the reversal of a policy that previously declared "sensitive locations," such as schools, churches, hospitals, colleges, funerals, and rallies, off-limits for Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.
While Penn has remained silent on the new policies, groups around campus are preparing for what they might look like campus. Penn for Immigrant Rights, for instance, has hosted two "Know Your Rights" workshops, alongside groups like the United Minorities Council and the Greenfield Intercultural Center.
Although former Penn President Amy Gutmann announced in 2017 that Penn would serve as a "sanctuary" for undocumented students, PIR and other organizations now fear retaliation from ICE.
