Interim Penn President Larry Jameson will serve on the 2024-25 Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.
Jameson joins 31 other Philadelphia-area leaders as new members of the Board of Directors, according to the Oct. 22 announcement. Former Penn presidents Liz Magill and Amy Gutmann both previously served on the Board during their presidential tenures.
"The Chamber does important work to support the business community in Philadelphia, and it is critical for Penn, as the largest employer in the city, to be connected to their initiatives," Jameson wrote in a statement to The Daily Pennsylvanian. "I’m looking forward to being involved and supporting the Chamber’s efforts."
The Chamber did not respond to the DP's request for comment.
Other members of the board include President & CEO of Center City District Prema Katari Gupta, CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Penn Medicine Kevin B. Mahoney, CEO of the Philadelphia Museum of Art Sasha Suda, and President of Saint Joseph’s University Cheryl A. McConnell.
In a statement to CityBiz, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber Chellie Cameron said that "by leveraging their diverse experiences and insight, we aim to drive impact and growth across the Greater Philadelphia region."
"I look forward to collaborating with them to realize our vision: Greater Philadelphia is a top global destination for business and a leader in inclusive growth," Cameron continued.
The Executive Committee includes President & Founder of Team Clean Donna L. Allie, Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer of Cencora Elizabeth Campbell, Chief Information Officer of Wawa John Collier, President & CEO of GenVault Keith DiMarino.
The Chamber’s region is composed of 11 counties in the Greater Philadelphia region, including areas of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Northern Delaware, and Southern New Jersey, and is the "premier organization to convene and connect business, government and civic leaders to drive economic growth and prosperity for all," according to the Chamber's website.
The Chamber’s Board of Directors works to shape the Chamber's positions on critical issues and board members serve in an advisory capacity, "providing assistance in the realm of public policy advocacy and member recruitment and retention," according to the Chamber's website. The Executive Committee oversees business operations and sets strategic objectives for the Chamber.
Former Penn Presidents Liz Magil and Amy Gutman served on the board and Executive Committee tenures as President. In 2018, Gutman received the 2018 William Penn Award from the Chamber — the highest honor given to a business or civic leader in the city. The award, established in 1949, had previously been granted to former Penn President Judith Rodin and former Drexel President Constantine Papadakis.
