Penn field hockey coach Colleen Fink will resign from her position after 15 years with the program. The news comes three days after the conclusion of the Quakers’ season, which saw them finish 4-12.

Fink commented on her departure in her formal resignation released in conjunction with Penn Athletics.

“My family and I are grateful to Penn for 15 wonderful years, and I am proud of the program that I am leaving behind. I have loved each and every team that I have had the privilege to lead and thank my players and staff for their trust and dedication. I’m personally excited for what lies ahead,” Fink said.

The Bala Cynwyd, Pa. native was hired by Penn in 2010 after coaching Haverford field hockey for four seasons. Fink inherited the program from Val Cloud, who also served as the coach of Penn field hockey for a total of 15 years.

Since Fink’s hiring, Penn field hockey’s record is 113-122 and 52-46 in Ivy League play. The team has not finished first in the conference under Fink but placed second in the 2013 season. 35 of her players were selected for All-Ivy honors during her tenure. The Red and Blue’s last winning season came in 2021.

In 2020, Fink sat down with The Daily Pennsylvanian to discuss the strong team culture she helped curate.

“We’ve been able to create a culture of support and sisterhood and love within our program at Penn while still being able to be successful,” Fink said. “During times of crisis, we’ve seen how important this type of culture can be. Seeing our team and what they’re able to achieve despite all of the obstacles that they’re up against is something as a coach that I’ve found to be really rewarding.”

At the start of the 2024 season, Fink called for “radical change” within the program. Penn field hockey went on to have their worst record since 2011 and was outscored 40 to 22 by opponents.

Penn Athletics will conduct an immediate search for the program’s next coach.
