Happy Halloween! Not to spook you even more, but Election Day is five days away — so make sure to pick up a copy of the DP's Voter's Guide before tonight's festivities. 

A group of Penn Libraries staffers have officially formed a union, and the University pushed back against criticism of the Oct. 18 search of the off-campus residence of pro-Palestinian student activists. 

But first, while Penn students may be gearing up to attend a party tonight, they shouldn't expect any registered daytime parties during Homecoming weekend.

Penn bans Homecoming darties

Penn's fraternities have traditionally hosted daytime parties, colloquially known as "darties," throughout the weekend of Homecoming. However, this year, Locust Walk will no longer be lined with partygoers and loud music during Homecoming day, taking place on Nov. 16. 

Penn has banned daytime parties from occurring during Homecoming Weekend, which some fraternity members allege is a move in favor of a University-sponsored tailgate event — prompting criticism and frustration from greek life leaders. 

The University attributed the decision to new event protocols.

In 2008, the DP reported that fraternities have thrown more registered parties than they had in years past. This year, one of the biggest weekends for parties of the fall semester — Homecoming Weekend — may go without its signature day parties, or "darties."
