But first, the DP found that former President and 1968 Wharton graduate Donald Trump has distanced himself from Penn during this campaign cycle.
In his first two election cycles, 1968 Wharton grad and former President Donald Trump frequently mentioned his Ivy League credentials and affiliation with Penn to underscore his business acumen and compare himself to his political opponents. However, a recent data analysis by The Daily Pennsylvanian reveals a decrease in positive mentions of Penn this cycle.
The DP previously reported that in his first run for president, Trump referenced his Penn affiliation 93 times, incorporating terms such as “Penn,” “Wharton,” or “Ivy League” often in his campaign rhetoric. Since Nov. 15, 2022, Trump has mentioned “Penn” or the “University of Pennsylvania” 20 times. Out of these, four instances directly referred to the Penn Biden Center rather than his personal affiliation.
First-year students spoke to the DP about their challenges with dining options, laundry access, and excessive noise caused by the ongoing construction in Ware College House.
Music and Africana studies professor Timothy Rommen, who specializes in Caribbean music, will begin his term as the first vice provost for the arts on January 1.
1990 College and Engineering graduate and former Penn donor David Magerman announced that he will be redirecting donations to universities in Israel, including $1 million to Tel Aviv University.

At a 2016 Board of Trustees meeting, Penn trustee and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. joked about 1968 Wharton graduate Donald Trump's ongoing presidential campaign — saying that, 20 years prior, Penn's trustees lamented the lack of Penn alumni in politics at "the highest level."
Huntsman, who ran for president in 2012 as a Republican, originally supported Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump but had called for him to drop out of the race by the time of the meeting.
