But first, local politicians and pro-Palestinian groups have expressed concern the execution of a search warrant at an off-campus residence that allegedly belongs to Penn student activists — and the Philadelphia District Attorney's office shared additional information with The Daily Pennsylvanian about the search.
The Philadelphia District Attorney's office told The Daily Pennsylvanian that it had "no role" in Penn's execution of a search warrant at a property near campus allegedly housing pro-Palestinian activists, and two local politicians have expressed concern over the search.
Penn's Division of Public Safety confirmed to the DP that the warrant — which was reviewed by the DA's office and approved by a bail commissioner — was executed Friday morning, and the raid was made public in an Instagram post from Penn Students Against the Occupation of Palestine on Monday evening. A spokesperson for the DA's office wrote that they had "reviewed and approved a search warrant for a location in West Philadelphia” on Oct. 16 in connection with an "ongoing investigation" led by Penn Police and DPS.
Two local politicians — Pennsylvania State Rep. Rick Krajewski and Philadelphia City Councilmember Jamie Gauthier — released statements on Tuesday expressing concern about the search, and pro-Palestinian groups at Philadelphia-area schools have shown their support for PAO on social media.
