A Penn professor and five other Penn affiliates were sanctioned by Russia and prohibited from entering the country. In addition, Penn celebrated its fourth annual energy week last week.
First, let's look at reactions to the DP's recent investigation which found that the Wharton Graduate Association allegedly withheld a promised $90,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia. While Wharton and the Clubs have voiced support for Fight Night in the wake of the investigation — and the event is still scheduled to take place this year — students said that they were upset by the allegations.
Three weeks ago, an investigation by The Daily Pennsylvanian revealed allegations of Wharton’s student government failing to fulfill a promised $90,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia's Literacy Initiative, finding that only $75,000 of the approximately $165,000 raised from Fight Night's 2023 event has been donated to the Clubs.
Now, the investigation’s results have prompted mixed reactions, with Wharton, the Clubs, and the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly voicing support for the event — which is still scheduled for April 6 — amid ongoing student backlash.
Professor Michael Orenstein and five Penn alums were banned from entering Russian territory, with Russia alleging that they were involved in anti-Russian proceedings.
Penn celebrated Energy Week from March 11-15, with 26 events sponsored by sixteen centers and schools.
Spruce Street will be closed to traffic between 40th and 42nd streets from March 18 to May 4 due to SEPTA's Trolley Track Renewal Project.
