Penn community members will gather Friday evening at 6 p.m. at Kelly Writers House for a memorial honoring the life of Jamie Albrecht, 2022 College graduate, who died earlier this year.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jamie Albrecht - a KWH staff member, Class of 2022 graduate, brilliant poet, and cherished friend," a statement on the Kelly Writers House Instagram account said on March 6. "Our hearts are with Jamie’s friends and family. We will miss him so much."
Albrecht won the 2022 Creative Writing Honors Thesis Prize for the poetry manuscript "What Have You."
"As you may have heard, we lost Jamie to an accident earlier this month," an email to the Kelly Writers House community on March 21 wrote. "His death has been a horrible shock – he was the most Writers House of Writers House people, meeting JLJ as a high schooler, working here his whole undergraduate career, taking classes with Al, writing and reading poetry, and just being so completely and utterly Jamie."
The email went on to describe KWH as a home for Albrecht.
Attendees are encouraged to bring stories and photos to the memorial, and food will be served. Those who plan on attending should RSVP to KWH Program Coordinator Alli Katz, katza@writing.upenn.edu.
