A victim unaffiliated with Penn was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center after gun shots were fired at 40th and Chestnut streets Tuesday afternoon, according to the Division of Public Safety.
The suspect is a 5-foot-10 Black male of heavy build wearing all black clothing and a hooded sweatshirt. The suspect was last seen heading westbound on Market Street, according to DPS. A second suspect was also reported as a Black male wearing all-black clothing.
At least six police vehicles and 10 police officers were at the scene at 3:15 p.m. A portion of the 39th and Chestnut block, adjacent to local restaurant Distrito, was taped off at 3:23 p.m. The tape was removed after approximately one hour, allowing cars through.
Approximately 30 minutes after DPS posted the initial report at 3:18 p.m., DPS declared the area "all clear." Police were still on the scene as of 4:00 p.m. and will continue their investigation, according to DPS.
