A woman is in critical condition at Presbyterian Hospital after a double shooting in West Philadelphia, Fox News reported.

The shooting took place on Jan. 6 at around 6 p.m. at Merion and West Girard avenues, approximately two miles from Penn's campus. A 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were sitting in a black Dodge Neon at a red light when a gunman opened fire before fleeing the scene, NBC Philadelphia reported.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, after being struck with a bullet in the head and another in the chest. The woman was shot once in the left side of her chest and twice in her left arm, police told CBS Philadelphia.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Police told NBC Philadelphia that the incident is the first murder of 2018. In 2017, 317 homicides occurred in Philadelphia, the highest number since 2012.
