According to The Temple News, more than 2,000 people marched through Temple University and joined the city-wide anti-Trump protest on Wednesday night.
Students gave various reasons for participating in the protest. Kyle Telman, a University of the Arts alumnus, was outraged by people who voted for Trump and urged protesters to express their outrage.
“I think institutional mentalities have ruined a lot of people,” Telman said to The Temple News. “They are sheepish; they got filtered into voting for someone who is not eligible and just a horrible human being.”
Temple freshman Elizabeth Royster also believed that protesting was a way to make the most of the election’s outcome. She urged people to “keep doing what we’re doing right now until it works.”
Support for minorities was the motive for Temple freshman Vandanna Haripersaud to protest.
“I’m personally straight but for me to have gay, bisexual, transgender, lesbian, queer friends, for them to have to email me like, ‘Vandanna, I can never love, I can never get married, what am I gonna do?’” Haripersaud said to The Temple News.
Coming from an immigrant background, Temple freshman Coutrney Diec also joined the protest last night. . She told The Temple News that it was empowering to see the support from the Philadelphia community.
This was the second student protest on Wednesday that took place on Temple’s campus.
