Men’s basketball at the University of California at Berkeley has more than just the upcoming NCAA tournament on its mind.
The university will investigate the role that head coach Cuonzo Martin may have played in reporting incidents of sexual harassment by assistant coach Yann Hufnagel. According to The Los Angeles Times, Hufnagel sent threatening, sexually explicit text messages to an unnamed female reporter.
According to The San Jose Mercury News, Martin may have known about the harassment more than a month before reporting it and allegedly told Hufnagel to apologize to the reporter to resolve the issue. Hufnagel has denied that any harassment ever occurred.
UC Berkeley will play as a No. 4 seed in the South region in the NCAA tournament, starting on Thursday.
