Three students have been arrested at George Mason University following investigations which confirmed the presence of bomb-making materials.
The university has not provided the identities of the suspects, though one was arrested on possession of bomb making materials while the other two were arrested on drug and alcohol charges.
According to Fox5 News, The George Mason University Police received reports of flames that were shooting out of a dorm room window. Police immediately entered the room and came across a suspicious, green substance. They obtained a search warrant and returned to the room for further investigation.
Police identified a tool box containing materials such as match books, a mortar and pedestal, lighter fluid and hand sanitizer candles, among others.
A bomb squad was called in and they confirmed that the items were being used to make explosive materials, possibly fire bombs.
Police have taken all suspect materials into custody, although students who live in the dorm are concerned that, had police not been called, a dangerous situation could have resulted.
"It's surprising to me that no one else on the floor knew about it, and if they did, they didn't say anything about it,” student Sydney Cono said to Fox5 News. “Explosive are very, very harmful, but at least the police caught it before something bad could have potentially happened.”
