Sujit Choudhry announced on Thursday that he has resigned as Dean of the UC Berkeley School of Law. This announcement came in light of a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against Choudhry earlier this week.
According to an article in The Press Enterprise, Tyann Sorrell, a former executive assistant to Choudhry, claims that from September 2014 to March 2015, Choudhry sexually harassed her with kisses on the cheeks, bear hugs and repeatedly rubbing her shoulders and arms. Furthermore, Sorrell claimed that when she complained to supervisors, they failed to stop Choudhry and tried to retaliate against her.
University of California President Janet Napolitano has ordered a new sexual harassment review process for senior leaders, including a system-wide committee that would review and approve proposed sanctions against senior leaders who violated sexual harassment policies.
In a separate action, Napolitano barred Choudhry from campus for the rest of the term.
