While American citizens struggle to predict the presidential nominee for the Republican Party, students at Washington and Lee University may already know.
The university’s mock convention forecasted Wharton graduate Donald Trump to be the Republican nominee in this year’s election. According to The New York Times, the mock convention has correctly chosen the nominee for the party 19 out of 25 election cycles.
The top three candidates were Trump, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, who earned 1320, 652 and 399 votes, respectively.
Speakers at the famed convention included former Vice President Dick Cheney, former Speaker Newt Gingrich and former chairman of the Republican National Committee Ed Gillepsie.
After hearing about the results, Trump expressed his satisfaction with the results.
“I’ve been hearing about this for many years, and I know your track record is extraordinary, better than anybody’s,” he said. “I will do my best to keep it intact.”
