The Ivy League will be adding to its list of business schools next year.
Cornell University’s board of trustees recently voted to create a new College of Business, which would combine the university’s School of Hotel Administration with two other business-related schools, the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management and the Johnson Graduate School of Management. According to The New York Times, the consolidation of the three programs is expected to happen during the 2016-2017 school year.
This decision has not come without backlash; students and alumni of the hotel school have expressed opposition to this change. Pride for the hotel school is a driving factor in the protest, with the hashtag “#hotelies4ever” springing up on Twitter and a "Keep Cornell Hotel School Independent" page gaining at least 1300 likes on Facebook. Over 100 students marched to protest a presentation about the new business college on February 2.
The size of the research faculty at this new College of Business would rank third behind Harvard School of Business and Penn’s Wharton School of Business.
