The male student who entered two Quadrangle rooms on Jan. 24 faces no criminal charges.
“He presents no threat to the community,” Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush said on Thursday. The student does not currently have access to any of the buildings on campus.
The student, a former resident of the Quad whose identity has not been released, was slated to have a meeting with the Vice Provost for University Life this week to determine his standing at the University going forward, according to the Division of Public Safety.
DPS declined to comment on the meeting, stating that the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act prevents the division from sharing information on confidential student records. DPS referred further comment on the meeting to VPUL.
Early in the morning of Jan. 24, the suspect allegedly entered the rooms of two sleeping female students. The second female, College freshman Sarah Figgatt — who agreed to be interviewed for a previous article — was able to give a clear description of the student, stating that he was a 5-foot-10 Asian male with long dark hair.
The student was apprehended by Penn Police and identified by Figgatt in the early afternoon. Figgatt said that Penn Police later alerted her that the suspect confessed to the break-ins and was intoxicated during the incident.
DPS said that the Quad security was not breached at the time of the incident, and both dorm rooms were unlocked at the point of entry. DPS’ Special Services are assisting the two victims.
Correction: A previous version of this article stated the suspect in this case will face no criminal charges, when in fact he is not currently charged at this time. The DP regrets the error.
