Class of 1983 alumnus and finance executive Eric Vandercar died Tuesday in a crash between a Jeep and the Metro North train he was riding home. He was 53 years old.
At Penn, Vandercar graduated in the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology's second-ever graduating class. He concentrated in finance and decision sciences in the Wharton School and double-majored in system science engineering and computer science in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He was also a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity.
Vandercar worked on municipal financing at Morgan Stanley for 27 years before becoming head of Municipal Funding at Mesirow Financial. He was a member of SMITH’s Research and Gradings’ 2013 and 2014 First All Star Team in the Municipal Derivative Category.
"Eric was not only a pillar in our industry, he was a great partner and friend to many," Mesirow said in a statement to the New York Times.
In his personal life, Vandercar enjoyed jam bands and was a husband and father of two, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was the team head coach of the Town of Bedford Soccer League.
