After a suicide attempt, Princeton freshman W.P. was told he would not be allowed to return to campus.

Following requests by the university to take a voluntary leave of absence to seek medical care, the school involuntarily withdrew him after his latest suicide attempt — his third in three years.

W.P. appealed the decision by the university to ban him from classes, to which they responded by motioning to dismiss the lawsuit. During his time off, he held an internship, attended classes at a nearby school and adhered to the treatments required by Princeton for reenrollment. He returned to campus a year after leaving.
