Junior wide receiver Cameron Countryman has been cleared to practice for Penn football but will not dress for the Quakers' game against Columbia on Saturday, according to Mike Mahoney, Penn's Director of Athletic Communication.
Countryman was suspended last week following his arrest for simple assault. The incident occurred on Sept. 28, when a student allegedly yelled racial slurs at the junior and began shoving him. Another student athlete intervened in the incident and Countryman punched the fellow student athlete and knocked him to the ground.
Due to his suspension, Countryman missed Penn’s most recent game against Fordham and was not allowed to practice with the team. However, the wide receiver returned to practice this week, catching passes and going through normal drills.
“He’s been cleared to practice,” coach Al Bagnoli said after Wednesday's practice. “Our internal guidelines took over once everything got taken care of in the courts. So once they rendered their verdict, that triggered us into a new course of action."
