My housing experience at Penn has been a very positive one.
Freshman year I lived in Kings Court-English House. KCECH has a strong sense of community and provides a lot of opportunities to socialize with your house mates. They hold many events, study breaks, and dinner discussions. My floor was extremely close. We regularly hung out, studied, and watched movies together in the floor lounge.
KCECH also has a great location. It is conveniently located near most class buildings and has its own dining hall, which is especially useful when the weather is bad. The house also provides a television room for residents and a rooftop lounge and balcony for socializing and studying.
Freshman housing is a great chance to meet people and make friends. My freshman roommate and I got along great and are still living together. Overall, freshman housing is a lot of fun and I would not have skipped it to get into the more spacious high rises earlier.
As a sophomore year, though, I live in Harnwell College House. Living in the high rises is an entirely different experience, with its own noteworthy attributes.
Having more space and my own kitchen provides for a lot more freedom. Every day my roommate and I cook dinner together and chat. The high rises are much more private and you really have your own space to have people over or to do big projects. I really appreciate the apartment-like style of the high rises, which makes for a more comfortable living situation.
One of the best features of the high rises are the rooftop lounges which provide a beautiful view of campus and the city. My roommate and I will even be returning to Harnwell next year.
