Katie Bonner, former associate director of student affairs in the Office of Student Affairs, will succeed Hikaru Kozuma as director of the OSA. Bonner’s promotion was announced last week, after it was announced on March 15 that Kozuma had been promoted to associate vice provost for student affairs.
The OSA, which is a department of the Division of University Life, is responsible for a number of activities related to student life and campus organizations.
Some of its primary duties include working with the Student Activities Council, administering budgets and accounting for both graduate and undergraduate groups and acting as a link between student groups and the administration.
Bonner’s previous achievements include helping to make Spring Fling safer and increasing the involvement of parents of current Penn students, as exemplified by her work to make Family Weekend more exciting.
Before arriving at Penn, Bonner served in a similar role at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As Program Advisor, her roles included advising Greek organizations and facilitating leadership development.
The OSA this year will have to contend with a number of challenges. New student groups face a moratorium on recognition while current student groups are dealing with financial difficulties. At the same time, the Social Planning and Events Committee will continue to expand festivities through Skimmer Fest, concerts and Spring Fling.
Still, Bonner is enthusiastic. “I’m incredibly excited … to serve as Executive Director,” she said in a release. “I look forward to leading the Office of Student Affairs to shape and enhance the Penn community.”
