Victory never tasted so sweet.
After a rough start to the year, the Quakers (4-8, 1-4 Ivy) finally got their first win in the league on Saturday against Brown (6-6, 0-3).
Juniors No. 2 Derek Chilvers, No. 3 John Dudzik, and No. 8 Daniel Judd, as well as No. 5 freshman Liam Quinn all swept their matches, helping the boys beat out the Bears 6-3.
“They’re peaking at the right time,” coach Jack Wyant said. “I give the boys full credit – they need to work hard and believe in what they’re doing and what we’re trying to teach them, and I think the weekend’s results are a reflection of that.”
The Red and Blue hoped to take that winning momentum into the next day’s match against No. 4 Yale (9-2, 3-1), but ultimately fell to the Elis on Sunday afternoon.
Yet, after three 9-0 losses and two 8-1 losses in 2013, the boys managed to pull off an impressive 6-3 loss to the Bulldogs.
“We knew we were going to have back to back tough matches,” Wyant said. “You just do your best to recover after the first match.”
After an overall successful weekend, the Quakers head to New York on Friday to face Columbia and return home Sunday for their last home match against Cornell.
