Traffic was blocked off this morning on 38th Street between Chestnut and Walnut and on the 3800 block of Walnut Street.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., several police cars blocked off the intersections. “SWAT” cars were at the area.
“No one was hurt,” said Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush.
“Police became aware of a student who had some personal issues going on, and we were able to speak to the student and to have the student agree to seek help with our assistance,” she added.
Officers from the Division of Public Safety and the Philadelphia Police Department had a “discussion” with the student.
Rush explained that “anytime there’s a situation like that, you may see markings like ‘SWAT.’”
“It’s all protocol,” she said, “not necessarily that the situation required all of that.”
By around 11:30 a.m., the conflict had been resolved, Rush said. No UPennAlert was released.
