School of Veterinary Medicine Dean Joan Hendricks will be recommended for reappointment for a second term at the University to run through June 30, 2018.
A Consultative Committee conducted a comprehensive review of Hendricks’ first term as Dean, Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Vince Price announced today in a statement.
The review, which began in January, also identified the major challenges and opportunities which Hendricks and Penn Vet may face in the coming years.
Hendricks, who has been dean of the Veterinary School since 2006, will be recommended to the Board of Trustees for reappointment at their June meeting.
In their statement, Gutmann and Price cited Hendricks’ effective management of finances and strategy in the face of state funding cuts as “defining themes” of her first term.
During her time as dean, Hendricks has balanced the School’s budget, opened updated facilities, initiated programs to improve the School’s infrastructure and built ties to other campus and state-wide groups.
Gutmann and Price also explained that the School will need to create a long-term financial plan and manage costs to support high-priority initiatives in the future. Despite “extraordinary challenges” which Penn Vet has recently faced, they praised her past performance and endorsed her ability to continue leading the School.
