Penn football lost one of its greats last week, when Adolph “Beep Beep” Bellizeare died at age 58.
Bellizeare, who graduated from the College in 1975, was one of the Quakers’ best running backs of all time. He ranks third in career rushing touchdowns with 30, all scored between 1972-74. He is also on the list of 11 Penn rushers to record 200-yard games and is in the top 10 for career rushing yards with 2,155. After graduation, he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, but he did not appear in NFL action.
The Boston native moved to Upper Darby, Pa., and lived for the last 15 years in Scotch Plains, N.J. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Christian Love Baptist Church in Irvington, N.J.
He is survived by wife Joanne, daughter Brittany and siblings Brenda and Preston Bellizeare.
