Penn President Amy Gutmann will participate in a roundtable meeting today with Vice President Joe Biden and other university presidents to discuss job creation resulting from stimulus-funded research.
Among the five other university presidents attending is Johns Hopkins University President Ron Daniels, who formerly served as Penn Provost.
According to a White House press release, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — commonly known as the stimulus package — provided over $18 billion for research grants through various federal offices.
One of such grants was the $13 million awarded to the School of Medicine from the National Institutes of Health earlier this year. The money will go toward providing additional laboratory space in Penn’s $370 million Translational Research Center, slated to open in spring 2011 at 3400 Civic Center Blvd.
