Popular campus restaurant Greek Lady will soon expand both its seating area and breakfast menu.
Greek Lady, at 224 S. 40th St., will expand this summer, taking over the space formerly occupied by its neighbor Izzy and Zoe’s.
Renovations are expected to begin in mid-May and continue “for a month to a month and a half,” according to Greek Lady owner Dimitrios Dimopoulos. “We’re hoping to be open [in] August.”
Greek Lady will be closed during that period of time, but Dimopoulos said when students return in the fall, remodeling will be complete.
“It’s going to be more comfortable for people … and it won’t be as crowded,” he added.
Izzy and Zoe’s, known for its breakfast, closed last January after breaching its lease obligations.
Greek Lady “did execute the lease for Izzy and Zoe’s,” according to Ed Datz, Director of Real Estate, Facilities and Real Estate Services, and will “expand into the space.”
“It’s small and it’s a little crowded,” Dimopoulos said of the restaurant.
Greek Lady is currently 1,500 square feet, but after renovations, will exceed 3,000 square feet, according to Dimopoulos.
“We’ll be able to operate the store more efficiently. We needed the extra space,” he said.
The restaurant currently serves several breakfast options, such as omelets and breakfast sandwiches.
After renovations, Greek Lady will expand its breakfast menu to include pancakes, waffles, bagels, egg and cheese croissants, muffins, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee.
“Greek Lady has a reputation for everything they have being good,” Wharton junior Brandon Crowfeather said, adding that he’s interested in seeing if breakfast will match up to the restaurant’s other menu items.
The restaurant, which was normally open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., has been opening earlier.
“We’ve been testing … opening at 7 a.m., but we haven’t really been advertising” the early opening, Dimopoulos said.
After renovations are complete, Greek Lady will have breakfast-only hours from 7 a.m. through 10:30 a.m. During these hours, lunch items will not be available. Breakfast items will continue to be available after 10:30 a.m.
“It’s going to be a perfect location to grab something on the way to class,” Dimopoulos said.
“I’m very excited that Greek Lady’s expanding. It’s one of my favorite places to eat on campus,” College junior Jung Lee said. “I don’t usually eat breakfast here, but now that they’re expanding, I’ll definitely try it.”
The restaurant will make additional changes, but Dimopoulos said he preferred to “leave it as a surprise” for customers.
