Tonight, Penn students will travel the world in two hours.

The Penn International Business Volunteers will hold its annual international dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room of Claudia Cohen Hall.

PIBV is a student-run, non-profit consulting group, that spends its summers traveling and working with different non-governmental organizations around the world to look into their business plans. The event is meant to be a fundraiser and a way to publicize these trips.

“There are three main things that we want people to know about Thursday night: the food, the performances and the trip that it funds,” PIBV Events Chair and College Sophomore Michelle Lee said.

All proceeds of the dinner will go toward the PIBV summer trips in Ghana, China, Bolivia and Mexico, where students work to help local NGOs improve their efficiency and sustainability.

Members of the club who go on these trips come from all four undergraduate schools and all types of backgrounds. The trips cost students money, but the club is hoping to subsidize most of the trips from tonight’s dinner.

They also have two sponsors for the dinner: the Asian American Studies Program and the East Asian Languages and Civilizations Programs.

The dinner will consist of a buffet-style tasting menu from nine culturally diverse restaurants including Greek Lady, Pod, Sang Kee Noodle House and Rising Tide featuring Chinese cuisine, Kabul featuring Afghan cuisine, Kabobeesh featuring Indian and Pakistani cuisine, Saad’s Middle Eastern cuisine and Taglio with Italian cuisine. Additionally, the Penn Vegetarian Society is bringing in Ethiopian food from Gojjo, Lee said.

She also said four culturally diverse Penn groups will perform at the event: Hype, Penn’s co-ed, multi-cultural performing arts group; PennYo, Penn’s Chinese a cappella group; PENNaach, Penn’s all-female South Asian dance troupe and a Penn Philippine Association dance group.

Ticket’s for tonight’s dinner will be sold on Locust Walk for $10 or at the door for $12.

This article has been corrected to reflect that Asian American Studies Program and the East Asian Languages and Civilizations Programs were co-sponsor of the event. It originally stated that the programs are sponsors of PIBV's summer trips.
