Cornell’s triumvirate of seniors ensured that the Big Red would not again fall prey to an upset-minded Penn team.
Ryan Wittman and Louis Dale scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, while Jeff Foote pulled down 8 boards as the Big Red clinched a share of the Ivy League title with a 68-48 victory over Penn Saturday night at Newman Arena.
Zack Rosen led the way for Penn with 23 points but spent most of the game in foul trouble. With him off the court more than usual, the Quakers turned the ball over 21 times.
Cornell honored its outgoing seniors in a pregame ceremony, with the loudest cheers coming for Dale, Foote and Wittman. The three followed it up with strong performances that guaranteed the Big Red a share of the Ivy championship.
One win, or losses by Harvard and Princeton next week will give Cornell the title outright and the League’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth.
The Quakers look to recover from a disappointing weekend sweep on Friday as they host Harvard.
